Word count of selected text

I thought I used to see word & character count of the document in the window bar bottom right, and for selected text, word and character count.

For selected text, I only see character count. Is there a setting somewhere I’ve missed, to get the count of selected words?

Have installed Stephen’s ThoughtAsylum action group – very helpful suggestion.

I would still like to see the four basic counts on the window bar – for speed and convenience. Important for content writing and I still do some writing for print where it is essential!
