Weird Paste Behavior

I’ve noticed a problem for years that sometimes pasting into Drafts results in Markdown-ified text from rich text (preferred), but other times it strips everything and results in plain text without formatting or markup.

Today, I tracked down when each happens. When using the long-press context menu to paste, you get Markdown. When you use the Paste action (I’m pretty sure the one preloaded on install), the formatting is stripped.

Is that difference in behavior intended? I pretty much always want it to be pasted in as Markdown. Should I be using a different action?

Depending on what action you are using to paste, it can behave differently. It sounds like you have a paste action that is only setup to paste as plain text, not convert HTML in the clipboard to Markdown
