TIP: Use Templates to Control Draft Widget Content

Draft Widgets display content from a draft on your Home Screen. By default, the display the draft title, and a preview of the body content…but, did you know you can customize that display?

In the widget configuration screen, enable custom title or body templates, and add template tags using the same Drafts template markup used in actions. With these tags, you can add values like assigned tags, or a last modified timestamp!

Found this information really useful today. Greg helped me understand that a widget’s body display defaults to [[body_preview]], which resulted in some unexpected truncation in an XL size widget (iPad).

I’ve been experimenting with using Drafts widgets for a bit of visualisation (habit streaks / tracking) via an automated action that outputs updated content to a specified draft that the widget is based on (see pic). Always interested in hearing more about how other people are using widgets, particularly edge cases.
