Text disappears when typing

I am having an issue where text is disappearing when I type… very hard to concetrate like this…

Was happening on v52 and now v53.

Confirming “Moder Editor” is not selected.

Here is a video of the issue.

Running MacBook Pro 5 + and the less than desirable Mac OSX 26.4 (25E246)

Interesting. This is the second report I’ve had of this, but I’ve not seen it myself or been able to reproduce. This is all the time for you? Doesn’t go away if you restart the app or anything?

What theme are you using? Any difference if you change theme and/or fonts?

It’s been all the time for a few weeks? I use a custom theme - been rock solid for a year with no issues at all till now. I will text with straight markdown and report back.

@agiletortoise I believe I found the issue: It is happening when “Paragraph Numbers” is enabled. Confirming the issue with BOTH custom theme and standard Markdown theme.

I still can’t yet reproduce this…any other clues? Like do you have any accessibility options enabled that tend to alter display, like Reduce Transparency or Reduce Motion?

I do not have these other settings on…

I see this bug too and use line numbers. I do use a window manager app Magnet for window snapping, which I think has interfered with weird rendering things in the past. That said, the bug occurs whether or not Magnet is running. I don’t think I have any other accessibility/motion/display settings that are non-standard, though.

Working all day with numbered lines disabled - and I have not encountered the issue once.

I also have this issue, and I have paragraph/line numbers turned on. As soon as I turn them off, the garbled text disappears.

The garbled text also disappears when I move the cursor to another line, which is how I make sure what I typed is good.

Version: 53.0 (824) E:legacy
OS: macOS Version 15.7.7 (Build 24G720)
(left off the UUID in case that was PII)

Same issue. And turn off line numbers, it won’t occur.

It’s a terrible bug, fix it please.

I have yet to be able to reproduce this on any of my Macs, which makes it hard to fix. Any other clues (other than paragraph numbers being enabled) would be helpful. I suspect it is a combination of Editor Settings or conflict with some other utility, but until I have a reproducible case I can’t fix.

two clues for now:

  1. paragraph numbers being enabled
  2. This draft contains a sufficient number of characters.

My experience continues and is identical to all that above mentioned.

Significant text plus line numbers enabled.

And clears to be readable on the next line.

If any of you are on the beta, I uploaded a build that might address this problem. Still haven’t reproduced, so can’t be sure - so a confirmation would be good.

Just to add, I encountered this issue for the first time today. Turned off paragraph numbers and text then rendering fine again.

I’ve been trying to figure out what is causing this issue too. I tried switching between regular and Modern Editor hoping to fix it but eventually the issue appears using either of them.

There are two different issues I’ve seen:

  1. Text appears garbled / distorted when typing and seems to run into other lines as shown in the videos above
  2. Entire areas of text disappears when switching apps. Sometimes it will reappear when switching back to Drafts but I need to click into the text area to get it to work.

I haven’t tried disabling the line numbers, but will give that a try with the non Modern editor. I spend most of my day in Drafts and this one is hard to live with so thanks for that suggestion!

Just came to these forums for the first time to see if this was a common issue. It’s been happening for some time for me, but for me it’s not been a major issue as there’s a quick workaround as if you even slightly “scroll” the screen redraws. Since I am using a Trackpad II then a quick flick up with two fingers shows the text again. But turning paragraph numbers off does stop the issue. Happy to give a beta a whirl to see if that fixes the issue.

I too had the issue and the latest beta 53.5 build 846 fixes the issue for me, thank goodness. It was making the app unusable. FWIW, the bug began to appear for me once I had moved to a 5120 pixel wide monitor. I didn’t have a chance to try it on a “normal” size resolution. I did not have the bug on my laptop (m2, 2560 pixels) but I did on an M1 Mini and M4 Mini connected to ultra-wide monitors.
