System and Sync Requirements Changing for Drafts 52 and Greater

With the release of version 52 in the coming weeks, Drafts is making several data-level and sync changes that necessitate raising the minimum macOS version for the Mac version to macOS 12.4 or later.

These changes also require that all Drafts installations participating in sync be running version 52 or later. If you attempt to launch an older version of Drafts after any of your devices have updated to version 52 or later, sync will temporarily be disabled in the older version, and you will get a warning to install updates. When Drafts is updated and relaunched, sync will resume.

  • New Minimum System Requirements, starting with Drafts 52:
    • iOS 15.6 or greater (no change)
    • macOS 12.4 or greater (was 11.5)
    • watchOS 8.5 or greater (no change)

If you are running older versions of Drafts on devices that do not support updates to newer versions of their operating system, you can continue to run Drafts on these devices using only local data, but they will not be able to participate in sync with installs on your other devices running newer versions.

Backward compatibility is important, and I try hard not to disrupt support for older devices, but at times it is necessary to keep the app moving forward.
