Sync slower and less reliable than before

Is anyone else having issues with sync? I often add an item on iOS and then it doesn’t show up on the desktop. But it isn’t that sync isn’t working. If I quit and relaunch the desktop app it will then sync as normal. Or sometimes I have to edit the item that is being synced on my phone before it shows up on the desktop. Rarely have problems in the other direction.

Desktop version 45.1 (520)
iOS version 45.1 (518)

I’m assuming that you have the apps open when experiencing this problem and it isn’t a typical background sync delay. If that is not the case, you should revalidate on that basis.

Another assumption is that you have good Internet connectivity at all times on your devices. Again, worth checking if you are unsure.

With those in mind, I would suggest then to try signing out and then back into iCloud on each device. Drafts uses an iCloud service for sync. Sometimes iCloud itself can get a bit glitchy and many people have had success in resetting that by logging out and then back in.

After that, if you are still experiencing slowness, grab the logs as per the trouble shooting guide and send them in to support.

Hope that helps.

Yes, the apps are open.

Yes, I have an excellent internet connection.

I did recently sign out and back on my phone. I will try doing so on my desktop as well. If that doesn’t work, I will mail the logs.

Thanks.

Definitely enable sync logging. I suspect the problem is on your Mac. I don’t know if you’ve recently updated your Mac, but I’ve seen more than the usual round of temporary iCloud issues around the macOS 15 updates. Logging out and in will probably resolve, but if not do open a support ticket and send in logs (use “Send Feedback” in mac help menu).

It is possible that it was the recent macOS update. I logged out of iCloud and back in and initial results seem to be positive. I will continue to monitor it for a week or so to see if the problem persists. Thanks.
