Scaling of UI elements on smaller iPads

The buttons are just a bit oversized as implemented on iPadOS for the 11-inch and the mini. It’s become more of an issue with iPadOS 26 and the removal of Split Screen and Slide Over. With the replacement windowing system, a Drafts window that’s half the screen width when in a portrait orientation is just a bit too big to fit because the UI elements are too wide/big. My particular use case involves having Drafts split on one side with my content on the other, which should be rather typical. Ideally there’d be additional space to move the split a bit as well, but it’s understood that making the UI elements too small would create its own problems.

To some extent, this is simply a change in the platform, not Drafts. I’m working with what Apple provides as best as possible, but it is a fact that basic toolbar controls are larger on iOS 26, and will likely remain that way.

There’s some more work that can be done to allow smaller size windows on iPad, but it will involve hiding elements, not shrinking them. Always trade offs, but expect some improvements as things settle in with the OS updates – which are still very buggy, and have resulting in adaption going more slowly than hoped.

In case it helps, I’m running the TestFlight beta on the latest iPad Mini.

I only use it occasionally but I’m certainly prepared to use it more and try things.

It think it would solve my issue if Apple just put Split Screen and Slide Over back into the “Full Screen Apps” option under Multitasking and Gestures. I know that’s asking too much.
