No RTF 2 Email, right?

If I’ve read the docs correctly, the only way to render my markdown as RTF in Drafts is to run the “Copy as Rich Text” action and paste.

Am I missing something?

I’ve seen the HTML export, but that doesn’t work on MacOS and I’m not sure it does what I want.

If you are specifically referring to sending formatted e-mails on the Mac, take a look at Mail Assistant.
