Lost Drafts Notes

Hi everyone!

After getting a new iPhone and completing the data transfer, I mistakenly deleted the drafts app off my phone. Redownloaded it a few hours later to find all my notes gone, whole app completely clean. Can’t find anything on my iCloud backup. My old phone has already been resetted to be shipped out. Feeling super heartbroken and down about how easily I lost everything— used this app for almost 4 years as a journal for thoughts, feelings, memories. Any help in getting these notes back? It would be greatly greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much, Eden

Several places to start…

  • Look in Drafts Settings > iCloud. Is sync enabled? Possible iCloud was not available on the new device or disrupted for some reason and it just need to be turned on to start syncing your data back from the cloud.
  • If sync is enabled, and there’s still no data coming in, it’s possible your old device was not syncing to the cloud and only storing data locally - or something else is disrupting sync on the new device. Enable sync logging on the same setting screen and let it run for a little while, then send the logs from that screen to open a support ticket and we’ll review the logs to see if there is anything going on with sync.

If sync seems fine, but you still don’t have data, then maybe your old device was only storing it locally and not syncing. In that case, you would have to restore from backups. By default, Drafts periodically backs up to iCloud Drive/Drafts/Backup, and the files there can be used to restore drafts, actions, and workspaces to an installation. Details on backups in the guide.

Also, do you have an iCloud backup of your phone? It’s also possible you might just want to restore the whole phone again from a cloud backup as an option.
