I was just doing some measurements and wrote them down in Drafts. For a subtraction, I typed an equals sign … and Drafts performed the calculation. How cool is that? I didn’t know this feature existed!
Thanks for such a thoughtful application!

I’d like to take credit for that, but that is Apple’s handy work, which Drafts gets for free because it is based on the system text stack.
You can type equations in other apps, like Mail, etc., that use these controls as well.
Hello. This bring up an old “-ish” question I’ve had overtime. Does anyone know if there’s an action or a way to temporary modify the iOS keyboard to help with typing arithmetic? Something like a number / arithmetic-symbols keypad. I ask this because I find it cumbersome to perform calculations in iOS, since I have to navigate back and forth (in and out) in its keyboard. In my case the back and forth takes forever, not to mention typos, eventually forcing me to not use the feature.
thanks for the advice and I apologize for somewhat “highjacking” the topic.
You will probably get a better answer from someone else. In the mean time this Action might be helpful:
You can easily edit this to suit; for example adding an equal sign.
You can’t switch in the input keyboard live on the editor, but you could use an action to prompt for input with the numeric keyboard.
Try this “Insert Number” example. If you made this available on your Action Bar it would be handy for those type of needs.
