Drafts 45.1 released

Drafts 45.1 has been released:

Details below. For a complete history of updates, visit the release notes.

45.1

  • Change: Re-enable dictation and transcription features when running on iOS 18.1 or macOS 15.1 or greater, because Apple has resolved the underlying Speech framework bug in iOS 18.0 and macOS 15.0 as of beta 5 of these OSes and this fix should be available in the final release of these updates.
  • Change (iOS): Rethinking the dark-light mode icons a bit. Most of the alternate icons now have both dark and light mode versions.
  • Fix: Add Cache-Control headers to APIs calls to Dropbox, which shouldn’t be necessary, but seems to workaround some issues making repeat calls to work with the same file.
  • Change (iOS): Refactoring of handling of trait changes in the background to prevent issues where leaving and returning to a window causes scrolling of the active draft.
  • Change: Be more agressive about forcing sync when updates are made by Shortcuts intents in the background, as changes in iOS 18 seems to make it less likely the background sync would get triggered in a timely fashion.
  • Fix: Address some widget margin issues when running on macOS 13.x
  • Fix(iOS): Crash using “Run Action” bulk operation from draft list.

Is there something additional that needs to be done to re-enable the dictation and transcription features when running Drafts 45.1 on iOS 18.1 on my iPhone 13 Mini and iOSPad 18.1 on my iPAD Mini 5?

In both instances Drafts states that version 45.1 is running but it also refuses to run Dictate and gives me the message “Dictation Disabled”. Siri dictation still works but alas the serious Drafts additional features are still missing in action. Based on experience I suspect that the Apple rollout of 18.1 is the problem but it is still frustrating.

Are you sure you are on iOS 18.1? It is not out as a public release yet, only in beta.

An interesting question and piece of information. I am a Canadian and our rollouts have on rare occasions been known to be on a different schedule than the US versions. I just checked my iPhone and it indicated that it is running on 18.0.1 (22A3370). It gives no indication of whether or not that is a beta version or the final version. Exactly the same information is displayed for my iPad Mini (ie. iPadOS 18.0.1 -22A3370). The plot thickens!!

Sorry if I’m not stating this clearly enough, but 18.1 is not a released OS. Unless you have explicitly signed up for the Apple beta program or are a developer, you would not have this OS installed or available to install on your system yet. The dictation feature will start working again once you have access to that release on your device. I expect it will be out soon, and was trying to get ahead of that release to get this fix available.

My error and appologies.
