Been very much enjoying building out workflows in support of my better self in recent months. It’s been an exercise in striking the balance between providing enough scaffolding to keep me moving towards “right action” when I lack the motivation/energy to stay on track and my executive dysfunction kicks in, without overwhelming myself with anything that feels to rigid or demanding. Built a “day plan insert” action yesterday (pictured) in Drafts yesterday that works in tandem with my daily log and provides a list of actions from my ideal plan for the day. Avoids having a fixed daily todo list (on top of whatever else needs doing on any given day). The design of the menu (indication of how long it’s been since I last completed actions, status colours etc) nudges to do things or question whether I want/need to continue thinking about those things as part of my daily routine, suppresses actions once they’ve been marked as complete in today’s daily note and includes support for conditional parsing (e.g. items best done on specific days of the week or month…)
Based on a similar methodology as my recent launcher action, it draws its source from a draft, so is easy to adjust without updating the action itself. It’s basically a combination of a daily checklist, recurring task list and streaks tracker, with built-in logic to show me what might be appropriate in the current moment (e.g. evening checklist hidden until evening hours, morning checklist hidden after morning hours even if incomplete…)
Haven’t shared this as an action (yet?); just sharing a usage pattern. The “last done”/”missed” state of individual items is updated via a separate action, and runs as part of my morning start-up run.
And yes, I live in dark mode…
