I hope this is a dummy question, but…
the only way to get a text from a a PDF opened in Apple Preview is via clipboard?
Preview (at least on Mac) doesn’t enable normal text services and contextual menus for text selections for some reason…kind of annoying.
I know PopClip’s Draft extension works in Preview. There are probably other automation tools that could be used to intervene as well.
On my Mac (macOS 13.4) it is possible to highlight text in a PDF in Preview, and the contextual menu shows up including services like Draft’s. But capturing doesn’t actually work which is even more annoying because you’re fooled to think it does.
One more reason why I don’t want to do without PopClip.
