I’ve been using Drafts successfully for months, but whenever I invoke a Preview, I get lots of beach balling and lags. That persists until I restart or reboot. This started happening in October, so I’ve just avoided using Preview, but every so often I’ll try and it recurs. I would love to fix this.
I’m running Drafts 47.0 and Sonoma 14.7.1 on a 2019 MacBook Air with 8GB
Have not had any other reports of issues with previews. A few questions:
Is this using the standard File > Show Preview command?
If yes, do you see similar problems using action-based previews, like the example ones that ship in the default “Markdown” action group?
If no, above question reversed.
Is the problem related to having used a preview at all, or leaving it open?
What Markdown processor are you using (in Settings > Markdown), and what settings do you have configured for that processor?
If you switch between MultiMarkdown and GitHub as the processor, any change?
What preview template are you using, one of the default built-in templates or a custom one? If built-in, which one, and does changing have any effect (drop-down at bottom of preview window)
The beach ball appears after I’ve used File > Show Preview, though I usually use the keyboard shortcut. Not right away, but within a few minutes or after typing a few characters.
I will try the previews in the “Markdown” action group
Just using the preview, not leaving it open
I’m using MultiMarkdown with Smart quotes, Escaped line breaks, Footnotes, No labels, and Process HTML checked
I will try switching to GitHub processor
I’m using the default Basic; trying Foghorn now
As I’ve gone through this list the beach balling has gotten worse, 10-30 seconds. I’ll keep trying the suggestions in between restarting the app or rebooting and reply with more tomorrow.
