Using menu bar item without running app?

Hi,

Is there a way to make Drafts’ menu bar icon available without running the app?
I don’t like to keep apps open while I’m not using them, but it seems that I have to leave the app open all the time if I want the menu bar item to be accessible anytime.

As for other apps that I use such as Evernote and MindNode, their apps and menu bar items can be running independently and I can use their menu bar items even after I close the apps.

I’d be interested in this too - I’ve found that I mostly use the quick capture shortcuts during the day so it’d be nice to not have the app in the dock if that’s all I’m using.
