Can we change markdown for bold to one asterisk (instead of two)?

I was wondering if anyone would be so kind as to make a simple syntax for use on WhatsApp. Italic: _text_ Bold: *text* Strikethrough: ~text~ Monospace: ```text``` I went through the documentation for creating a new syntax but am afraid that it is beyond me. I’m sure this would be helpful to many people. Thanks!
